RE: thinking of buying a Motorhome....looking for tips/hints
When we bought our first camper we looked at floor plans. We wanted a private bedroom and a private bathroom. We went to several dealers and to a couple of RV shows and walked through quite a few units. We finally found something and bought it. We kept a little pad in the kitchen drawer and when we found something that we wished we had, we wrote it down. 5 years later we took the list and the camper to a dealer and traded on something that, until now has been perfect for us. Good luck, we've made a lifetime and more of memories in our camper. Our vacation home is wherever we park it!

RE: 400.00 to tell me you don't know what's wrong
So an update. I picked up the camper and they delivered it at no charge. The small job I asked them to do in addition to fixing the slideout was to seal a window over the driver's side door. They claimed to have run a pressure test and found two leaks that they sealed. When I picked up the unit as soon as I move water came down from the ceiling at the front on both sides. I don't know if that is related to the pressure test or if they caused a leak in the roof. Also, the slide is now out at the bottom about a half inch, it was closed tight when I brought it in. I think we're going to punt until the spring. We're just going to winterize it and cover it and call it a year. Over the past few years we sunk quite a bit into the unit. New tires, replaced exhaust header, new awning and slideout cover, new toilet, new faucet in the bathroom. At some point I think we need to decide to stop spending good money after bad. Alas, the financial situation is not what it once was and I don't think we'll be camping for much longer. Definitely not in a Class A at any point unless I hit Powerball.

RE: 400.00 to tell me you don't know what's wrong
I'm not a fan of CW, but it sounds like they stepped up in the end.
Is Timbuktu a real place?
I believe so. A little history. Flagg RV had two locations, West Boylston and Uxbridge. Timbuktu was located at the West Boylston site. I'm not sure of the relationship but they were associated with Flagg in some way. After the sale to CW Timbuktu moved at some point to a location in Worcester. I think I may wait until the spring to fix the unit but when the time comes I'll look for someone who is close and who tells me they can work with the older slideout/jack systems. Or, I'll just buy a controller and new solernoids on line and figure out how to replace everything on my own. You Tube is a great thing!

RE: 400.00 to tell me you don't know what's wrong
Just got a call from CW Service advisor. They are not going to charge for the diagnosis and in fact they are not charging for a small job they did that I waws happy to pay for. So now all I need to do is find a shop that will work on a 20 year old slideout system. I've been referred to Timbuktu in Worcester. Not sure if I'll try to get it fixed now or in the spring.

RE: Slide Out Issues
What type of slide do you habve
Giventhe age I knwo of 3 types
Hydraulic
Rack and pinion
Cable operated
From there odds are I'm going to know the issue list and there really are only 3 or 4 thigns that can go wrong.
Its a HWH 310 hydraulic system. The problem was that the living room slide would not retract. A mechanic had to release the fluid and we manually pushed it in. The other slide and the jacks worked as usual.

RE: 400.00 to tell me you don't know what's wrong
Did they not advise you of what the diagnostic charge was before you signed the work order?
Yes they told me what the shop rate was. But, I was clear the problem was with the slide out. They called me and said "We spent two hours diagnosing the problem. We have no idea what the problem is. Since we are not equipped to deal with slide out issues we can refer you to another shop that is better suited to work on slide outs." Did they just learn that they are not equipped to deal with slide outs? I have no problem paying a higher than normal price per hour for work because they are local, but to pay 400 for a diagnosis and the answer is "we can't diagnose your problem because we are not qualified to work on this unit" I call BS. Again, if they actually provided a diagnosis I would understand the charge.
AND I will have to pay the new shop to diagnose the problem because the 400 diagnosis was no diagnosis.

Slide Out Issues
Last camping trip we had a problem with the slide out not retracting. Had to get a mobile guy to come help us get it back in. He came with two people, spent 1.5 hours and charged me 100.00. His shop was booked and we aren't local so I thought I'd look closer to home. Brought it to Camping World in Uxbridge MA. They just called and said they spent over 2 hours tryi9ng to diagnose the issue and they are not "equipped" to handle this type of problem. I asked what was the problem and they said they were not sure, but they referred me to a shop in Worcester that can't take it until October 25. They charged me 400 to tell me they don't know what the problem is and they aren't equipped to work on slide outs. Well guys, you can see how old my camper is and itys a pretty good chance in the next 2 to 3 years I'll be shopping for a new one. NOT at a Camping World though. They should have told me from the get go that they were not equipped to work on the slide out

RE: Customer Service
We did talk to the office. They indicated there were a lot of complaints but said the vendor is a 3rd party and they have no control over them. The office did say they were creating a log to bring up in their franchise meeting. Discover initiated a claim and gave temporary credit pending the outcome of their inquiry.

Customer Service
We belong to Thousand Trails. Last week we ran up to the Moody Beach campground. We ordered cable service at the site from RESORT SERVICES, LLC. They took the money instantly. Service was never activated and despite 10 calls over three days we were never able to speak to anyone to report it. If you call their customer (dis) service number it plays rotten music for 5 minutes then announces they are too busy to take your call, leave a message and they'll call back. Must be really busy because despite leaving multiple messages never got a call. Also found theri web site and reported a tech issue on the "contact us" email address and they never responded either. Finally disputed the charge with Discover we'll see how that works out.
